There aren't a lot of Filipino restaurants in the Bay Are; but Toppings captures the taste of home best. Their twist on traditional Filipino dishes is excellent. Just different enough to appeal to American palates; but still similar enough to give Filipino customers the taste of home they crave.
The South City branch is big enough to accommodate a good-sized crowd.although it is best to order in advance to avoid long waiting times. -

My friend & I were craving Filipino comfort food which brought us here an hour before closing time. The restaurant seemed pretty busy but we were accommodated in no time.
We asked our server for soup before our entree was ready & she came back with a steamy, cup of chicken broth. Granted, the soup was bland but it was also free so I can't complain. Shortly after, our food arrived. We ordered Bistek a la carte with a side of steamed white rice. It was so yummy & filling, we were stuffed in just a matter of minutes. Our bill came to about $20 which is not such a bad deal for fast & friendly service plus leftovers for two!
Overall experience was good, I'd definitely recommend if you're craving Filipino food. I wish the restaurant was tidy since it was a bit of a mess in there, but this might've just been the aftermath of a dinner rush and the fact that they were closing in an hour. -

This is my fam's go-to Filipino restaurant for years. Toppings offers great value and food. Don't come for the ambience but come for good Filipino food and great fried calamari which is a must for every visit.

I have been going to Toppings for a long time now. Every time I do a SF trip a Toppings pit stop is a must.
This place is located in south SF Asian plaza with plenty of parking. It does get full on the weekends so be ready for them Asian drivers.
Whenever I go I always get the combo plates with java rice. The java rice is die for! It is way better than garlic rice or fried rice. I usually combo it up with the fried chicken and the BBQ stick. I also have the tried the bangus, milk fish which are all really good. However I only gave it 3 stars because lately there has been a lack of consistency in the taste. There are times that the food is real good and exploding with flavor and some times its bland.
I will always support the little mom and pop restaurants because it is a dying breed. -

I have been frequenting Toppings since I was a college student back in the late 90's to early 2000's. It was a staple of my diet back then. After moving away from the city, I frequent it much less. But when I do get the chance, it feels like it never changed.
To be honest, it hasn't really changed much at all. Very simple decor, simple tables and chairs, and simple atmosphere. What it all comes down to is the food. You can't go wrong with the food, and the prices are affordable. My go-to's are the crispy pata over rice, beef with scrambled eggs over rice, and their sizzling pork chop with gravy and java rice. Their java rice is very tasty and goes with pretty much any dish so I suggest upgrading to it.
Overall, I will always come back when I can. Always enjoyed eating here and the service is friendly.
